Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Embrace Serenity in Enen Island
Number 8: Immerse Yourself in Retreat to Enen
Developed by Head West and set in the year 3600 CE, Retreat to Enen offers immense potential. Humanity barely dodged extinction by opting for life and tranquility over war and strife. The central objective is to master harmonious living with nature, an intriguing and refreshing concept.
Enen is the island where you find yourself, filled with secrets awaiting your exploration. The game boasts base building, crafting, scavenging, and, as they claim, a calming experience. The map encompasses multiple biomes with breathtaking underwater environments. Expect to encounter arctic and jungle areas, as well as a highly advanced weather system.
Although this sounds like an ideal game, it ranks number eight for a reason. The graphics, though visually impressive, have a certain off-putting quality. However, I believe this game has the potential to evolve into something exceptional. The inclusion of meditation reinforces the promised relaxing experience.
Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Experience Farming & Combat in Farm Zone
Number 7: Tackle Zombies in the Wholesome Farm Zone
Farm Zone, developed by Exwol, offers a unique spin on survival games, making it an appealing addition to our list. At first glance, it features a cute and tranquil aesthetic, but lurking beneath the surface are zombies waiting to be battled.
Your primary objective is to prosper as a farmer while defending your land from relentless zombies. Venture to nearby towns to sell your produce, purchase tractors, and develop advanced defense systems. The game keeps its secrets close, leaving plenty to be discovered. A humorous section on their Steam page reveals the game’s lack of certain elements, including pineapple pizza, which contributes to its seventh-place ranking.
Despite the absence of pineapple pizza, Farm Zone bears similarities to a first-person Stardew Valley. While not everyone’s cup of tea, fans of realistic survival games should keep an eye out for this gem. Stick around, and you won’t be disappointed!
Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Delve into Finnish Folklore with Among the Trolls
Number 6: Unravel the Mystery in Among the Trolls
Developed by Forbidden Studios (a fantastic name, by the way), Among the Trolls captivates with its realistic depiction of a Finnish forest in Finland. Embark on an enigmatic journey to find your missing grandparents while mastering wilderness survival in the company of trolls.
Among the Trolls immerses players in Finnish lore and boasts striking graphics, promising an unforgettable adventure. The game will initially release in early access, with plans to stay there for over 20 months. The eventual 1.0 version aims to include four story chapters and numerous additional features.
Currently, the game offers eight distinct areas to explore and a plethora of items and building blocks. However, Forbidden Studios claims this is only 30% of the content planned for version 1.0, an impressive commitment.
Players can choose between two characters, Alex and Anna, to complete their quest. Both have traveled from the US to visit their grandparents and must now adapt to their new lives. Expect a blend of realistic lore and enchanting magic, as you’ll have the opportunity to collect and use mystical powers. Keep an eye on Among the Trolls to see how this intriguing survival game unfolds.
Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Dive into Fantasy with PALWORD
Number 5: Unleash the Magic in PalWorld
You’ve likely heard of PalWorld, so we couldn’t resist including this popular title before diving into some hidden gems. Developed by Pocket Pair and scheduled for release this year, this open-world survival crafting game allows players to befriend and collect enigmatic creatures called “Pals.”
Put your Pals to work by having them fight, build, farm, and even operate factories. My personal favorite is the blue, angry-looking duck-like Pal – utterly adorable!
PalWorld may seem like a typical fantasy game where survival is less challenging, but it defies expectations. Players can perish from starvation, struggle against harsh weather, and face illegal poachers. And in dire circumstances, you can even resort to consuming your Pal.
When it comes to construction, the possibilities are nearly limitless. Utilize your Pals to create pyramids, spaceships, modern mansions, and more. Build your own farm managed by your trusty Pals or construct factories to keep them employed, albeit perhaps not wholly fulfilled.
PalWorld offers multiplayer options, extensive exploration (including Pal-mounted adventures), and plenty of surprises to uncover. With that said, let’s move on to our next survival game!
Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Brave the Terror in Sons of the Forest
Number 4: Confront Fear in Sons of the Forest
Sons of the Forest, developed by End Night Games and slated for release in October this year, delivers a spine-chilling open-world survival horror experience. While this game is linked to the popular The Forest, it’s a title I only recently discovered during my research.
The premise involves being sent to a remote island to find a missing billionaire. The nightmarish landscape is teeming with cannibals, and your mission is to survive by any means necessary. Engage in crafting and building, either alone or with friends, to stay alive in this petrifying yet engrossing game. The graphics are astonishing, reminiscent of The Forest but ten times more impressive.
One standout feature is the changing of seasons. In spring and summer, you can fish for salmon in streams, while winter demands stockpiling meat as food becomes scarce. Be warned, you’re not the only one searching for sustenance. These cannibals are demonic adversaries, armed with pistols, axes, and other sinister surprises. Sons of the Forest is certainly not a game for the faint of heart.
Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Experience Terror with Madison
Number 3: Uncover the Mystery in Madison
Madison is a highly anticipated psychological horror game from Bloodless Games that has been in development for over five years. What appears to be a solo or duo development team’s passion project is set for release next month on July 8th. Now let’s dive into the game itself.
This first-person psychological horror experience isn’t open-world, but its “survival” tag on Steam earns its place on this list. Your mission in Madison is to photograph paranormal activity, explore your unsettling environment, and of course, stay alive.
The game’s lore is equally fascinating. As protagonist Luca, you awaken in a dark room, hands drenched in blood. A demon forces you to partake in a gruesome ritual, and your only hope for survival is your trusty instant camera.
The camera’s role in your survival is unclear, but it seems to trigger certain events. There’s undoubtedly more to uncover, and I’m eager to explore this chilling game. Regarding the prices for these games, details are often scarce. However, you might find information on planned price tags in each game’s Discord or social media channels.
Considering the high-quality nature of these games, it’s reasonable to assume most will have a price tag above $10.
Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Discover the Post-Apocalyptic World of Rooted
Number 2: Adapt and Survive in Rooted
Our number two pick, Rooted, is developed by Headlight Studios, a relatively small development team. Its stunning thumbnail image hints at an impressive game with smooth animations and remarkable graphics, likely due to next-gen technology.
The backstory of Rooted is a bacteriological war that devastated humanity for 20 years. As one of the few survivors, you must navigate this post-apocalyptic world, exploring forests, experiencing varying seasons, discovering artifacts, crafting new items, and building homes in abandoned buildings to flourish.
What sets Rooted apart is its constant evolution. Headlight Games claims that the game’s lore enables players to enjoy an ever-changing experience even after hundreds of hours. As you progress, you’ll unlock new items, areas, and crafting options, along with events that impact the world, introducing both comfort and danger.
While Rooted is a co-op game, solo play is also possible. Though it doesn’t come from a AAA game development team, I have high expectations for this underrated title, earning it the number two spot.

Top 8 Xbox Survival Games: Experience the Magic of Nightingale
Number 1: Enter the Magical Fey Realms in Nightingale
Taking the number one spot is Nightingale, a mysterious survival adventure game developed by Inflection Games. I believe it will redefine the survival game genre. Similar to Rooted, Nightingale presents an unusual fantasy realm for exploration, known as the Fey Realms. Your objective is to craft, build, fend off monsters, and survive within this enchanting world. With astonishing graphics and lighting, the game’s polished appearance and immersive atmosphere earn it the top position.
Nightingale is a first-person PvE open-world survival crafting game, playable solo or with friends. You’ll find yourself in a bizarre world cut off by the collapse of an arcane portal, and survival requires becoming a skilled realm walker. While the details of what a realm walker entails remain unclear, it’s a challenge I’m eager to undertake.
It has one of the best game building mechanics have me particularly excited to unleash my creativity. The possibilities seem limitless, akin to Minecraft. And if you ever feel lazy, you can recruit NPC workers to assist, automate tasks, and gather resources.
Nightingale is undoubtedly at the top of my wish list. But which of these games will you be playing?
