For those of you who are wondering how long it takes to beat outlast, the answer is not as simple as you might think. While it depends on how good you are at the game and how much time you’re willing to invest, I can give you a general idea.

Introduction

How long does it take to beat Outlast? It depends on how you like to play and what difficulty you’re playing on. If you’re going for speed, you can probably beat the game in 5-6 hours. If you’re taking your time and exploring everything, it could take closer to 8-10 hours. And if you’re playing on harder difficulty settings, it could take even longer. So, there’s no definitive answer. It all depends on your playstyle.

The Story

Outlast is a first-person survival horror video game developed and published by Red Barrels. The game was released on September 4, 2013, for Microsoft Windows, and on February 4, 2014, for PlayStation 4. A Mac OS X version was released on March 31, 2015. Outlast is set in an abandoned asylum housing disturbed criminals, who the player must escape from. The player has no combat ability and must instead use stealth to avoid enemies; if unable to hide from an enemy, the player can run away. The player camera also features a night-vision mode which allows the player to see in dark areas at the cost of battery power; when the battery runs out, the screen turns black and white until the player can find a new battery.

The Story mode can be beaten in 8–12 hours, depending on play style.

The Characters

Outlast is a first-person survival horror game developed and published by Red Barrels. The game was released for Microsoft Windows on September 4, 2013. It is the first installment in the Outlast series and was followed by Whistleblower, Outlast 2, and The Outlast Trials.

The game is set in the Mount Massive Asylum, a psychiatric hospital located in the fictional town of Miles Upshur County, Colorado. The player controls journalist Miles Upshur, who decides to investigate the asylum after receiving an anonymous tip that something sinister is going on there. Upon entering the asylum, he discovers that the patients have taken over and are torturing and murdering the staff. As he tries to escape, he encounters various supernatural creatures that impede his progress.

The game is played from a first-person perspective and uses a found footage aesthetic to make the player feel as if they are watching a real video recording. The player must use stealth to avoid being caught by the enemies, as they are unable to fight back. The player can hide under beds, in lockers, and inside toilets to avoid being seen. The game also features puzzles that must be solved in order to progress.

Outlast received positive reviews from critics upon release. Praise was directed at its atmosphere, scares, and graphics, while criticism was aimed at its short length and lack of replay value. A sequel, Outlast 2, was released on April 25, 2017.

The Gameplay

How long does it take to beat Outlast? That really depends on how good you are at the game and if you rush through or take your time to explore everything. If you’re looking for a number, somewhere between 8 to 12 hours, depending on your skill level.

The Environments

Outlast is a first-person survival horror video game developed and published by Red Barrels. The game revolves around freelance investigative journalist Miles Upshur, who decides to investigate Mount Massive Asylum, located in the fictitious town of Miles City, Colorado, United States, after receiving an anonymous tip. As he enters the asylum, he finds that the inmates have taken over and are torturing and murdering patients and staff.

The game is set across three different environment types: inmates’ quarters, filthy hallways and offices, and outdoor areas surrounding the asylum. The outdoor areas are only accessible during specific parts of the game. Each environment is designed to make the player feel disoriented, lost, and alone.

The scares

Outlast is a first-person survival horror video game developed and published by Red Barrels. The player controls journalist Miles Upshur as he investigates the Mount Massive Asylum and must leap, climb, hide, and run his way through its corridors in order to survive. Outlast’s scares come from its atmosphere and setting more than anything else. The asylum is dark, dirty, and full of disfigured patients who wish to do nothing more than harm to anyone who crosses their path. While there are some jump scares throughout the game, they are not overused and only serve to enhance the feeling of unease that the game constantly evokes

The ending

The ending of Outlast can be a bit confusing, but essentially there are three possible endings: good, bad, and neutral.

The good ending is achieved by completing the main objectives and rescuing all the inmates. This results in Chris Walker being arrested and taken away by the police.

The bad ending is achieved by killing all of the inmates. This results in Chris Walker being shot and killed by the police.

The neutral ending is achieved by completing the game without rescuing or killing any inmates. This results in Chris Walker escaping into the night.

Overall thoughts

Overall, I found Outlast to be a very enjoyable game. The atmosphere is incredibly creepy and suspenseful, and the story is interesting and engaging. The game is also fairly challenging, especially on the higher difficulty levels. I would say that it took me about 10-12 hours to beat the game on Normal difficulty, and I imagine it would take even longer on one of the harder difficulties. So, if you’re looking for a good horror game that will keep you entertained for a few hours, I would definitely recommend Outlast.
